RIM, or Research In Motion, is the undisputed leader in the growing field of wireless communication.

Check Out the Latest from RIM - the BlackBerry Pearl 9100

RIM, or Research In Motion, is the undisputed leader in the growing field of wireless communication. RIM is well respected, especially for its ubiquitous but highly impressive BlackBerry line, which is one of the top-selling and well-known names in the mobile phone world.

However, there have been several instances in the past when a BlackBerry prototype device has been leaked on the Internet way before the scheduled announcements or promotions from RIM. Of course, this may only be another marketing ploy to further drum up interest in the latest BlackBerry models and to create a lot of pre-release buzz for the latest phone.

However, it could also be a cause for concern for the RIM management because they may have a couple of untrustworthy people in their ranks that are willing to leak confidential information in exchange for money or notoriety.

Another RIM Leak on the Internet

The latest leak creating significant buzz in the mobile phone world is the latest RIM prototype device called the Blackberry Pearl 9100. Some are claiming that this mobile phone will be code named either Striker or Stratus, but there is no confirmation yet since BlackBerry has not yet released anything official regarding this model. Several images and even a video came out on various websites such as CrackBerry.com and Salomondrin.net to introduce the 9100 to the market. They are able to provide a fairly detailed look at the latest smart phone to join the Pearl line.

Unique Style of the 9100

The Pearl 9100 boasts of a similar candy bar style which the original Pearl 8100 series also has. Perhaps the defining feature of all the mobile phones in the Pearl line is RIM's SureType software and keyboard combination, which is able to squeeze multiple characters into single keys in order to significantly reduce the over-all size of their handsets. This means you won't need to bother with over-sized QWERTY mobile phones anymore. The Pearl 9100 is no exception, and also features the SureType technology, with the added bonus of having shinier, sleeker keys as compared to the other Pearl handsets.

Advanced Features of the 9100

The Pearl 9100 is actually only the third BlackBerry Pearl handset that features 3G capability. The first is the CDMA Pearl 8130, which was followed later by the CDMA Pearl 8230. As expected, the latest BlackBerry handset features the latest operating system from RIM, which is called the BlackBerry OS 5.0.

In addition, the Pearl 9100 features RIM's latest technology, the optical trackpad to make navigation much easier. This trackpad replaces the trackball which is found in the older Pearl models. Reports also state that the Pearl 9100 also has a newly designed battery which can last longer than previous batteries.

Since the BlackBerry Pearl 9100 is only a prototype device, RIM has not yet announced when the gadget will be officially released. However, many people are guessing that it will be out in the market sometime in early 2010. A CDMA version, which would most likely be called the Pearl 9130, should also be available in 2010.
